Port Dickson 2012

Race Reports, July 12, 2012

After missing last year’s race, I promised myself that I would show up in good shape this year. Port Dickson has always been a fun race with a great course and a friendly, casual homegrown feel to it.It’s always a treat to take a long drive out of the city to hang out and get to know my athletes better.

More Action Pictures here!

Me – 2:09 Happy that I could run strong to a 7th place finish in a strong field. I took a risk and pushed hard early on in the run to stay away from some very fast chasers. Came down to a dramatic sprint finish with the top placed Malaysian… and lost. But oh, what an incredible feeling…

Calm before the storm

Donald Piret – 2:19 Unfortunately got lost on the swim and cost him dearly- just missing a place in the fast pack on the bike. Still, Donald soloed bravely on and finished up with a very decent test run on his come back from injury. Good affirming training race.

Good morning!

Peter Crawley – 2:22 Takes a huge bite out of his OD PB as he starts to unlock the secrets of The Method. Crazy work travel commitments saw to it that lead up race prep was patchy, but by keeping the systems firing with a little bit everyday and trusting in his tr!ining and listening to his body, Peter was able to push hard on the big day and bring it home strong.

man toys

Renchun – 2:24 Very solid showing for our fast runner Renchun. As a relative newbie, he is learning how to manage his training load and picking up vital race skills to piece together the perfect day. No doubt we’ll be picking this apart to look at areas to work on.

On the run

Andy/ Sarah/ Aurill – 2:25 A very decent 8th place finish for a mixed relay team that was assembled on the drive up : ) Great swim from Andy sets Sarah up nicely to put her bike skills to work while Aurill powers away on the run. Nice work guys.. Let’s hope you’ve wet Andy’s appetite to slowly get back into it.

run/ bike/ swim

Alastair Reed – 2:38 Superb triathlon debut from Al, who, I’m told, has “caught the bug” and is going to get serious- as soon as he finishes his beers : ) Nice one fella!

Rehydrating

Nicole Wee – 2: 51 A steady race after a prolonged foot injury. Great to see Nicole, no worries, all smiles loving being back in the thick of the action. Well done girl!

Bike Love

Zaheera/ Lukman – 3:11 Chalk up another crazy adventure – these 2 know how to have fun all the time : ) Lukman survives his longest ride ever and is already asking “When’s the next one?” Zaheera, will you run 21 at Desaru just so Lukman gets to ride 90?

Supermum
this “ironman” stuff is a piece of cake..

Brian James – 3:17 Our soon to be Army boy squeezes a last race in before NS enlistment. Storing up happy memories for tough times ahead! All the best Brian!

Steady pacing

Huge thank you to Davin and Andy, who made sure everything ran smoothly for us and kept us well fed; from Coney Dogs and morning toast to 100 plus and Chili Crab, you guys had it covered. I want to see you both suited up next year and toeing the line!

With a record 1800 participants this year, it’s nice to see Port Dickson Triathlon growing organically from year to year while still retaining it’s carnival vibe- keep up the good work! Till next year – enjoy your training and exhaust yourself having fun everyone!
